"These are still pictures of the peace that no longer exists. The humanitarian situation in Khartoum is now catastrophic."

"The book Khartoum - A tale of three cities is the third and concluding part of the trilogy about habitats in extreme climate zones, which André Lützen photographed.
The capital of Sudan has a hot, dry desert climate. In summer, it gets up to 50 degrees Celsius, and climate change is also making itself felt with even higher temperatures. As the third part of his trilogy, Lützen was interested in exploring/showing how people furnish their living space in this ever-present heat. The photos in the book are an interplay of inside and outside, of portraits and living space.
The first two parts have already been published as a book by Peperoni Books: Zhili Byli photographed André Lützen in Arkhangelsk, Russia, where it can be an icy minus 30 degrees in winter, and it focuses on life in the cold in portraits and cityscapes. Inside Out Kochi, the second part of the trilogy, was taken in Kochi, India during the monsoon season. Here, it is not only the heat but also the humidity that affects the habitat."
"Lützen photographed regularly in Sudan over a long period of time. These are still pictures of the peace that no longer exists. The humanitarian situation in Khartoum is now catastrophic. But right now it is particularly important to show these pictures. To show which lives and which everyday life are not only endangered and destroyed by the heating climate, but in this case also by the fighting for power between the Sudanese army and the once allied paramilitary unit Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The book 'Khartoum' was financed through crowdfunding and published by André Lützen's self-publishing company Grundsky Books."
